It is with sad regret that due to diminishing membership the decision has been taken to cease holding club nights.
The team will however continue to play matches in local leagues.

There is no news regarding the resumption of League matches in either WD or SES. Meanwhile we have entered a team into the SSCBN Friendly Series based on the SES Levels league.

We plan to restart club nights on Wednesday 25th August.

The lockdowns continue with Sherborne being in Dorset and now under tier-3 conditions so club remains unavailable.
2020
30th November
We will be in a tier-2 area come 2nd December and according to the rules we as a club are not allowed to play even if the sports hall is open. Therefore there are unlikely to be any further club nights until January.
3rd November
Gryphon Sports Centre is closing again.
Due to the new Covid-19 lockdown the sports centre is forced to close after 4th November. Therefore that evening will be the last club for a while (at least a month). More news as it becomes available.
14th September
Gryphon Sports Centre has reopend.
Although the 16th is technically available, due to the short notice we intend that club will officially restart on Wednesday the 23rd. However there will be certain restrictions on play and attendance and details will be sent to all club members this week.
2nd September
The new season should have started today but we are still waiting to hear that Gryphon Sports Centre has reopend. Currently they are hoping it will be in the next week or two so we'll keep you posted.

With the spread of the Coronavirus the committee has taken the precautionary step of suspending club nights until further notice.
In addition the West Dorset league have suspended all matches.
24th January
The West Dorset team have progressed through to the KO Plate final following victory over Yeovil. The final will be held on 18th April.
2019
15th May
At the AGM we agreed that membership subscriptions should be increased for the first time in nearly 10 years.
So from September the new subs will be £90.
27th April
Yet more congratulations to the West Dorset team for winning the West Dorset KnockOut Plate final.

Congratulations to Will and Alison for winning the West Dorset Division2 tournament. Dave and Jackie finished 3rd.
21st March
Congratulations to the West Dorset team for securing top spot in Division 2 and promotion to Division 1 for next season.
2018
14th December
Both South-East Somerset teams suffered defeats in the Knock-Out Cup and are now out of the competition.
The West Dorset team faired no better in their Cup match losing by just 2 points but were drawn a bye in the Plate competition are will now play in the Plate final in April.
23rd May
At the AGM we had a discussion about club night attendance. It was decided to change club nights from Tuesday to Wednesday which meant a change of venue also as Oxley was unavailable on Wednesdays. Therefore club nights for the 2018/19 season will be held at the Gryphon Leisure Centre in Sherborne.
1st March
There will be no club night at Oxley either side of Easter (27th March and 3rd April).
This is due to a marquee being erected in the sports hall for the visit by the National Youth Orchestra. Alternative club nights are being held on Thursdays at Westlands (29th and 5th respectively)

There is no club night at Oxley on 14th November due to exams.
Westlands is free to use as a spare club night both on the 9th and 16th in recompense.
Club nights will resume on 21st as usual.

It has been decided that we are unable to support 2 teams in the West Dorset League and so we have reluctantly taken the decision to withdraw the team from Division One for the 2017/2018 season. We will still enter 2 teams into the South-East Somerset League as last season.
13th May
We had no trophies to collect at the West Dorset presentation evening tonight but that didn't stop us having a good time and winning NINE raffle prizes, including a watering can!
Mind you, we did buy an awful lot of tickets between us!

A dismal night in the WD Plate competition as both teams lost, the 1st team beaten by Yeovil while the 2nd team lost at Bishops Caundle.

23rd November
Congratulations to Jason and Janet who won the SES Miller mixed tournament over the weekend.
19th October
Oxley is unavailable during the week commencing 14th November.
Club night on 16th will be held at Gryphon instead.
The draw for the SES Cup has been made and using a different format consists of 2 groups of 3 with each team playing the other teams in a round robin format and the group winners contesting the final. We have entered a single team and the other teams in our group are Gryphon 1 and Yeovil. Thankfully it is handicapped and the matches will be arranged when courts are available.
17th September
James Elkin will be providing more coaching for club members who would like it. The dates are 28/9, 12/10 and 30/11.
5th August
The first club night for 2016/17 will be on Wednesday 7th September.
Note that Monday 5th September is also available for anyone who wishes to attend.
3rd August
Most fixtures for 2016/17 have now been organised though a few dates are yet to be confirmed.

Congratulations to the SES 1st team for winning tonight's SES Cup final against Cerne Abbas and retaining the cup for a second season. It was a close match throughout and the result was assured only in the closing games ensuring a 10-point victory. A good finish to a successful season.

The club has taken on responsibility to manage the West Dorset Presentation Evening to be held on 14th May. The event will be held in Cerne Abbas as previously and a barn dance and food will be arranged. More details will follow.

Both West Dorset teams were victorious in recent cup matches, the 1st team beating Bridport Royals and the 2nd team beating Charmouth.

A big thank you to James for providing some coaching recently. In the first of 3 sessions he covered all aspects of the service and in the next sessions he plans to cover the return of service and 3rd shot and then positioning during the rally. These sessions are planned for 11th November and 9th December.

Both level doubles teams are doing extremely well in their early matches.
In Division 3 Dave Calway and partners have won both of their first 2 matches and top the division, while Helen's team in Division 4 are in a very creditable 2nd place. There are no more matches in either division until January so hopefully they will continue their successes in 2016.

Commiserations to Stephen Rowell and Janet Martin who have finished in 2nd place in the West Dorset Veterans tournament. It could so easily have been 1st place but for an errant service into the net by Stephen with the score at 20-20 against the eventual winners! smiley_sad

Following the AGM and a subsequent poll of members it has been agreed that matches will be moved away from Westland sports club and will now be played at Oxley. By a majority decision it has been agreed that matches will be played on Monday evenings with club nights moving to Wednesday to avoid playing on consecutive nights. These changes will take effect in September.
20th May
The decision has been made to withdraw our team from the West Dorset FourTwo League as there are few teams now entered. To provide more matches we will enter a second team into the South-East Somerset Mixed League instead.

The club held a Christmas dinner this evening at Tamburinos in Sherborne. Perhaps the live music was a touch loud, but it was a good evening and well attended.

Both West Dorset mixed teams recorded narrow victories in the 1st round of the Knock-Out Cup competition. The 1st team beat Yeovil Graduates by just 6 points, while the 2nd team match against Dorchester was even closer with just 3 points in it! Well done both teams.
The draw for the 2nd round has already taken place and our teams will play against each other in order to progress to the final

The semi-finals of the West Dorset KO Plate featured both our teams playing against each other. The 2nd team (with home advantagesmiley_happy) were victorious by just 20 points.

The South-East Somerset Cup Final has been postponed because Westland could not raise a team! The date for the re-arranged match is yet to be agreed.
2nd Feb
The South-East Somerset team have reached the Cup Final following victory over KA Wizards. This will be held on Saturday 14th April at Westland Sports Hall.
The West Dorset 2nd team were tonight victorious against Charmouth 1 in their KnockOut Cup quarter-final. The match had some very close games that could have gone either way, and the handicap in Charmouth's favour was perhaps not as large as expected, but in the end the margin of victory was 35 points.
As a result of having been awarded a bye in the semi-finals, the team has now reached the final, to be played at Wadham School, Crewkerne on Saturday 21st April, commencing at 7PM.

The West Dorset 1st team have lost their KnockOut Plate quarter-final in somewhat contentious circumstances against a Gryphons team that was materially different from their nominated team.

The South-East Somerset team had a bye in the first round of the SES Cup but have been drawn at home in the next round against KA Wizards.

The mixed West Dorset teams couldn't be separated in their head-to-head tonight.
The 1st team won more rubbers (5 to 4) but the 2nd team scored more points overall (373 to 358). But the most important statistic was the games which were shared equally - 10 games apiece.
Well done both teams. Very entertaining for the lone spectator!

Bryan Collins and Jackie Malton decided to enter yesterday's WD Veterans tournament held at Redlands and came a very creditable 3rd. Well done to you both.
Both West Dorset teams are drawn away in their next cup/plate matches.
The 1st team will be playing Gryphons 1 on Tuesday 31st January in the plate.
The 2nd team will play on Thursday 2nd February against Charmouth 1 in the cup.

The ecstasy...
The WD 2nd team were victorious against Casterbridge in the 1st round of the WD cup last night.
In a very close match that saw us score only 40 points fewer than the opposition, we were awarded a handicap of 54 giving us victory by just 14 points.
And the agony...
In contrast, the WD 1st team lost their cup match to Yeovil Graduates by a paltry 9 points! Better luck in the plate guys.

Congratulations to the WD 2nd team who have won the Plate competition following victory over WD 1st team. Both teams will receive trophies at the coming West Dorset Annual Presentation Function.
Congratulations also to both teams for surviving in Division One for a season. It was touch and go at times but both teams showed great resolve in winning crucial matches. Well done!

The SES team won every game in their Cup Final match against Cerne Abbas but were undone by the enormity of the handicap against them which when added to the opposition score resulted in a loss by just 12 points.
This was a hard fought match knowing the handicap would be large and the team did a magnificent job in restricting the points scored against them to less that 6 per game, but sadly it was not to be.

The last cancelled match has been rearranged and the fixture lists updated. There are a number of matches still to be played through April, including two cup finals. Please support your teams in those finals on Saturday evenings at Westlands (April 9th and 16th).

Apologies for the lack of updates while I was temporarily incapacitated.
Updates are now being made and normal service will be resumed in the new year.

At the West Dorset AGM it was decided to increase the number of teams in Division One rather than split the Mixed League into three Divisions. The upshot of this is that we have agreed that the 1st team that were relegated to Division Two have been re-instated back into Division One, along with the 2nd team who were promoted by right.
It should be noted that Division One is considerably weaker than in previous seasons following the withdrawal of teams from Westland and Dorchester. A total of 4 teams have been promoted from Division Two, so it was felt that this was the best option for the club.
17th May - AGM
The committee remains unchanged except for the addition of Bryan Collins.
Subscriptions and match fees have been increased.
Jo Sams and Adrain Cocker were awarded the club trophies for their outstanding success in leading the West Dorset 2nd team to win Division Two and gain promotion.

The West Dorset 1st team have been relegated from Division One having lost their final match.
The 2nd team failed to keep their unbeaten season losing a close final match against Charmouth 1 by 5-4.

Charmouth 3 are fast becoming the club's nemesis team. Having already beaten our 2nd team in the Cup, they played against our 1st team who faired no better, losing by 46 points.

Congratulations to the West Dorset Mixed 2nd team who have finished top of Division Two with a game to spare. They needed only 3 points from their match against Charmouth 2 to guarantee finishing top and (just) managed to keep their un-beaten run by winning the match 5-4.

The West Dorset 2nd team completed another comprehensive victory over Bridport Royals 2 and are now the only unbeaten team in Division Two. The clash with leaders Charmouth 1 has unfortunately had to be postponed until later in the season due to court unavailability.

The SES Mens team are currently in 1st place in Division Two.
It's extremely close and there's hardly room to breathe as only 3 points separate the entire division.

Due to flood damage and the subsequent repair to the roof, all courts at Westlands will be unavailable until December.
Home matches in this period will be rearranged as soon as we can.
The West Dorset Divisional Tournaments have been postponed as a result and will be re-arranged near the end of the season.

Both West Dorset Mixed teams and the South-East Somerset team have all been drawn at home in their respective Cup competitions. The SES team will play Westland, while the WD teams will play Grads and Bridport. Dates to be arranged.

It has been re-scheduled for February 3rd 2010.

Budmouth have kindly agreed to rearrange the match scheduled for November 26th because we had 3 matches on the same evening. This match will now be played on Tuesday November 24th.

Yeovil Graduates have asked to move their home fixture in the FourTwo League and as a consequence the match originally scheduled for January 7th 2010 will now be played on March 31st 2010.

The West Dorset teams had mixed fortunes in tonights Cup and Plate Finals.
The 1st team lost the Plate Final to Yeovil Graduates by 70 points while the 2nd team beat Charmouth 1 in the Cup Final by 59 points.

Despite repeated requests for match dates, Bichops Caundle have refused to take part in the play-off match against our 1st team, with the result that we will likely remain in Division One next season. Since our 2nd team has been relegated, this is good news although we would have preferred to have played the match.

The WD 1st team have just beaten Crewkerne Hermitage in the Plate semi-final by 23 points, so we will be represented in both Cup and Plate Finals on April 25th.

The WD 1st team have now been confirmed as finishing just one place ahead of the 2nd team, and will contest the play-off match against Bishops Caundle who have finished runners-up in Division Two. The winner of the play-off match will play in Division One next season, the loser in Division Two.

It's no April Fool, but the 2nd team have reached the final of the West Dorset KO Cup, beating Smallmex in the semi-final. The finals are on Saturday April 26th at Westlands.

The West Dorset Mixed 1st team's loss to Smallmex has confirmed the 2nd team's relegation to Division Two. It's also now likely that the 1st team will be playing in the play-off match against the Division Two runners-up.

The SES1 team have lost their plate semi-final match against Westland.

The West Dorset 1st team have lost their Cup match against Smallmex by 42 points. This means they will be entered into the Plate competition.

Club night had to be cancelled due to the dreadful weather in the region. There weren't sufficient staff available at Oxley to maintain a safe level of cover and the Sports Centre was closed for the evening.

This success is also shared by the SES 2nd team who have started brightly with two wins out of three.

A very successful (and hot!) barbecue held.

At the EGM the proposal to relocate the club to Oxley Sports Centre in Sherborne was carried.
Of those who attended, there was 1 vote against and 2 abstentions, the rest in favour.
Of those who voted by proxy, all but one were in favour of the move.
Therefore from September, club nights will be on Tuesday 8pm at Oxley Sports Centre, Sherborne.

It was also agreed to call an EGM to discuss venue for club nights. This will be held on July 14th.

Subscriptions and match fees remain unchanged. However visitors fees are increased to £4 per visit.

A defeat in their last match looks to have resulted in the West Dorset 1st team being relegated from Division One, though this isn't confirmed yet.

The West Dorset FourTwo team have finished their season with a flourish, winning their last two matches 9-0 and leaving them well positioned in mid-table. This is a fine showing for the team in a new format league.

Congratulations to the South-East Somerset 1st team who have beaten Westland in the Cup semi-final. They will now face KA Wizards in the final, rescheduled for April 30th.

Despite being top of Division Two, the West Dorset 2nd team lost their Cup match against Charmouth 2 by 359 points to 392.

The West Dorset 2nd team are now 28 points clear at the top of Division Two with only 5 matches to play, so they're looking good for a trophy.

Having defeated the 1st team in the WD cup, the prize for the 2nd team is a semi-final draw at home against Charmouth 2. The 1st team will be away against Yeovil Graduates in the plate competition.

The Christmas tournament was held at the last clubnight of 2007 and was won by Robin & Jackie after a titanic struggle against John & Sarah. Full details can be found here.

Mary and Stephen managed to take a game off Westland 1 and should have added a second, but were overcome at the thought of actually winning a rubber! The match ended in a 9-0 defeat as had been expected.
The WD Mixed 2nd team continue to lead in Division Two, having slaughtered third-placed Charmouth 1.
The FourTwo team faired less well as they lost away to Charmouth. A late team change inflicted by Mike Horsey's last minute refusal to play left the team a man short for the match, but frantic phoning found someone to play. Charmouth claimed some games due to the late arrival of the team as per the rules, although there was time at the end of the evening to play them had they wanted.

Congratulations to the SES 2nd team who narrowly beat Yeovil Graduates in their South-East Somerset Cup match this evening, winning by just 2 points.
The WD Mixed 2nd team have lost their unbeaten run following the match against Smallmex. Turning up with only two pairs didn't help their cause!

The decision was made to support the West Dorset's proposal to play rally-points scoring next season.
We will enter a team into the proposed West Dorset FourTwo League.

The 3rd team beat Bridport Royals in the West Dorset KO Cup Final by 46 points (234 to 188).
Meanwhile the 2nd team beat Charmouth 1 in the Plate Final by 88 points (247 against 159).

Congratulations to the West Dorset 1st team who have gained promotion to Division One. They finished joint top with Dorchester 2 but were placed 2nd on matches won.

At the committee meeting it was decided to start using the rally-points scoring system at club night in preparation for it's introduction in league matches next season. Everyone should start to familiarise themselves with the new scoring method.

The Tony Pryce Racquet Demonstration Evening was a great success, although not enough time was available for everyone to try all the racquets they wished to.
Hadyn from Tony Pryce's Yeovil shop brought along a selection of different racquets, as did the Prince representative Peter who came up from Exeter. Also in attendance was the Yonex representative, also Peter, who came all the way from Oxford for the evening.
